Building a Support Network: The Importance of Community for Moms and Women in Business
As moms, as women in business, it's so easy to get into the headspace that we must do it all alone. Between juggling family, work, and personal goals, the pressure can feel overwhelming at an accelerating pace. The thing is, no woman was ever meant to bear it all by herself. Building a support network—through friends, family, or like-minded women in similar situations—makes all the difference in how we navigate the ups and downs of life and work. A community of people who understand you, cheer you on, and share their experiences when times get tough brings both comfort and empowerment.
I remember those early days of motherhood vividly. My son was just a few months old, and I was also trying to carve out a new chapter in my career. It was a time of joy, yes, but also a time filled with moments of feeling overwhelmed and unsure if I could handle it all. I didn’t have a community around me at first, and that isolation made things even harder. It wasn’t until I reached out and connected with other moms going through similar experiences that everything changed. I realized that I wasn’t alone in those feelings, and those connections became a lifeline. They shared their stories, their advice, and simply reminded me that it was okay to ask for help. That support helped me move forward with a renewed sense of strength and purpose, both as a mom and a woman in business.
Never underestimate the power of reaching out and building a community, even if it feels vulnerable at first. Surrounding yourself with a network of people who lift you up can give you the emotional support, wisdom, and motivation you need to thrive. One book that truly inspired me during this time was "The Fourth Trimester" by Kimberly Ann Johnson, which offers amazing insights on how to balance work and motherhood (you can find it here). Another helpful resource for women in business is the "Boss Mom" Podcast, which is full of inspiring stories from entrepreneurial moms juggling both roles (listen here).
I’d love to hear how you’ve built your support network or if it’s something you’re trying to start now. Share with me, because together we’re stronger, and I’m here to listen and support you in any way I can.
